1. Source material for the pattern
Choosing the right materials is crucial for successful lost foam casting. Depending on the casting material, different choices are made. For aluminum die castings, expandable polystyrene (EPS) with pentane as a blowing agent is ideal.

2. Pre-expansion
The unique expandable property of polystyrene is due to pentane, which serves as the blowing agent. Behold the transformation as EPS beads undergo pre-expansion using a fluidized bed dryer, preparing them for the next stages.
3. Molding

4. Pattern section assembly and mounting on a gating system

6. Mold filling The coated cluster is carefully placed inside a flask. With precision, quartz sand fills the space via a sand raining feeder, compacted to perfection by a vibration table. Once compacted, the cluster is fully embedded in quartz sand, leaving only the sprue visible.
7. Casting
A down sprue is expertly positioned over the EPS sprue, guiding molten metal to the foam pattern's gating system. As the metal flows, it gracefully decomposes the EPS cluster, seamlessly filling the mold cavity with intricate detail. Explore the mesmerizing decomposition process below.
8. Demolding
