1. Source Material for the Pattern
This stage is pivotal in the art of successful lost foam casting. Selecting the optimal material tailored to the casting requirements is paramount. For aluminum die castings, we handpick expandable polystyrene that encapsulates pentane, a potent blowing agent. This choice ensures precision and efficiency.
For crafting cast iron and steel parts, a specialized copolymer consisting of EPS and EPMMA is employed, enhancing performance and durability.
2. Pre-expansion
The dynamic expansion of polystyrene occurs seamlessly, driven by the pentane's influential role as a blowing agent. Discover the transformation as a bead undergoes pre-expansion using an advanced fluidity bed dryer.
3. Molding
In the creation of the actual pattern section, pre-expanded EPS beads are expertly channeled through a fill gun into a sophisticated permanent metallic mold using compressed air. These beads unite under heat within the mold to form the precise desired pattern geometry. Explore the detailed molding process as outlined below.
4. Pattern Section Assembly and Mounting
Complex pattern geometries are ingeniously broken down into manageable sections. Following foaming and drying, these segments are meticulously assembled into a complete pattern and mounted on a gating system to form a unified cluster.
5. Coating of the Clusters
The meticulously assembled clusters undergo a transformative coating process. They are immersed in a water-based refractory coating, achieving an optimal thickness of approximately 2mm, enhancing durability and quality.
6. Mold Filling
The coated cluster is strategically placed in a flask, with quartz sand filled using a sand raining feeder. Through precision vibration, the sand is compacted until the cluster is fully embedded, leaving only the sprue exposed, ready for the next stage.
7. Casting
A down sprue is precisely aligned over the EPS sprue. As molten metal is expertly poured into this conduit, it navigates the foam pattern's gating system. The intense heat decomposes the EPS cluster, intricately filling the mold cavity with molten metal. Delve into the decomposition process detailed below.
8. Demolding
After the molten metal has solidified, a flawless casting emerges, ready to proceed to the subsequent steps of thorough cleaning and refinement.
9. Sand Processing Department
Following demolding, the used sand is efficiently transported to a state-of-the-art processing system for recycling and reuse, maintaining sustainability and resource efficiency.
