THE MOST IMPORTANT PROCEDURAL STEPS ARE EXPLAINED BELOW:
1. Source Material for the Pattern
This pivotal stage sets the foundation for successful lost foam casting. Choose materials tailored to the casting demands. For aluminum die castings, we select expandable polystyrene with pentane, an excellent blowing agent, ensuring optimal results.
agent. Conversely, for cast iron and steel parts, a copolymer blend of EPS and EPMMA is applied, offering exceptional performance.
2. Pre-expansion
The polystyrene's expansion is driven by pentane, acting as a highly effective blowing agent. Below, witness the bead pre-expanded with precision using a fluidity bed dryer.
3. Molding
To craft the actual pattern section, pre-expanded EPS beads are propelled through a fill gun into a permanent metallic mold via compressed air. Inside the mold, beads fuse during heating to achieve the desired pattern geometry. Refer to the detailed molding process below.
4. Pattern Section Assembly and Mounting
Intricate pattern geometries are broken down into manageable sections. Post-foaming and drying, these segments are meticulously assembled into a complete pattern and mounted on a gating system, forming a cohesive cluster.
5. Coating of the Clusters
The assembled clusters are immersed in a water-based refractory coating, ensuring a robust coat of approximately 2mm in thickness, ready for the next stage.
6. Mold Filling
The coated cluster is strategically placed in a flask, while quartz sand is carefully filled via a sand raining feeder. Through vibration, the sand compacts until the cluster is securely enveloped, leaving only the sprue exposed.
7. Casting
A down sprue is expertly aligned with the EPS sprue. Molten metal is then poured into this downsprue, navigating into the foam pattern's gating system. The molten metal meticulously decomposes the EPS cluster, flawlessly occupying the mold cavity with fine detail. Examine the decomposition process below.
8. Demolding
As the molten metal solidifies, the casting takes shape. The formed castings advance to the next phase for comprehensive cleaning and finishing.
9. Sand Processing Department
Following demolding, the used sand proceeds to the processing system, where it undergoes a cycle of recycling and reuse, promoting sustainability and efficiency.
