CRUCIAL PROCEDURAL STEPS EXPLAINED IN DETAIL BELOW:
1. Sourcing Material for the Pattern
This step is pivotal in lost foam casting. Selecting the appropriate material aligned with the casting material is essential. For aluminum die castings, we opt for expandable polystyrene infused with pentane as the blowing agent.
For cast iron and steel parts production, a copolymer blend of EPS and EPMMA is utilized.
2. Pre-expansion
Polystyrene's expandability, thanks to pentane as a blowing agent, is harnessed here. The bead undergoes pre-expansion with a fluidized bed dryer, preparing it for the next stage.
3. Molding Process
In this stage, pre-expanded EPS beads are propelled using a fill gun and compressed air into a metal permanent mold. Once inside, heating bonds the beads, forming the desired pattern geometry. Explore the detailed molding process below.
4. Assembling Pattern Sections & Mounting on Gating System
Complex pattern geometries are divided into simpler segments that are assembled into a complete pattern post-foaming and drying. Subsequently, these patterns are mounted on a single gating system to form a cluster.
5. Coating the Clusters
The assembled clusters are dipped into a water-based refractory coating, achieving an approximately 2mm thick layer of protection.
6. Mold Filling Process
The coated cluster is positioned in a flask, where quartz sand is filled via a sand raining feeder and compacted using a vibrating table. Upon completion, the cluster is entirely embedded in quartz sand, leaving only the sprue exposed.
7. The Casting Phase
A down sprue aligns with the EPS sprue, into which molten metal is poured. This action disintegrates the EPS cluster as the molten metal fills the mold cavity in intricate detail. Delve into the decomposition process below.
8. Demolding Success
Once molten metal solidifies, the casting takes shape. Castings are then advanced to the next stage for thorough cleaning.
9. Sand Processing Department
Post-demolding, used sand is transferred to the processing system to facilitate sand recycling, enhancing sustainability.
