THE MOST IMPORTANT PROCEDURAL STEPS ARE EXPLAINED BELOW:
1. Source Material for the Pattern
In this pivotal stage of lost foam casting, choosing the right material is essential. For aluminum die castings, we select expandable polystyrene enriched with pentane, a superb blowing agent delivering optimal results.
Conversely, when crafting cast iron and steel parts, a seamless blend of copolymer EPS and EPMMA is employed to ensure impeccable performance.
2. Pre-expansion
Witness the polystyrene's remarkable expansion, driven by the pentane blowing agent. A bead emerges gracefully from the fluidity bed dryer, pre-expanded to perfection.
3. Molding
To create the pattern section, pre-expanded EPS beads are expertly propelled into a robust metallic mold with compressed air. Inside the mold, they harmoniously bond with precision during heating, forming the envisioned pattern geometry. Dive into the detailed molding process below.
4. Pattern Section Assembly and Mounting
For intricate pattern geometries, we simplify and segment. Post-foaming and drying, these sections are meticulously assembled into a cohesive pattern, mounted on a gating system to craft a comprehensive cluster.
5. Coating of the Clusters
In this transformative coating phase, the clusters receive a water-based refractory layer, achieving a fine 2mm thickness. This step fortifies the structure.
6. Mold Filling
The coated cluster takes its place in a flask, embraced by quartz sand delivered through a sand raining feeder. Vibration compacts the sand, ensuring the cluster is fully enclosed, revealing solely the sprue.
7. Casting
A meticulously aligned down sprue channels molten metal into the EPS sprue. The molten metal traverses the foam pattern's gating system, decomposing the EPS cluster as it intricately fills the mold cavity. Explore the detailed decomposition process below.
8. Demolding
Upon solidification, the casting materializes in its pristine form, ready for subsequent steps of meticulous cleaning and refinement.
9. Sand Processing Department
After demolding, the used sand embarks on a journey to the processing system, where it is recycled and rejuvenated for future use.
