UNVEILING THE CRUCIAL PROCEDURAL STEPS: A COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW BELOW:
1. Sourcing Material for the Pattern
This stage is pivotal for lost foam casting. The choice of material is dictated by the casting material. For aluminum die castings, expandable polystyrene containing pentane as the blowing agent is selected.
For cast iron and steel components, a specialized copolymer composed of EPS and EPMMA is employed to ensure optimal results.
2. Pre-expansion
Polystyrene is made expandable due to pentane acting as a blowing agent. The following involves a bead pre-expanded using a fluidity bed dryer for enhanced efficiency.
3. Molding
In the production of the actual pattern section, pre-expanded EPS beads are propelled into a metallic permanent mold by compressed air. Within the mold, the beads bond upon heating, forming the desired pattern geometry. Please review the meticulous molding process below.
4. Pattern Section Assembly and Gating System Mounting
Complex pattern geometries are segmented into simpler sections, which are assembled into a complete pattern post-foaming and drying. Subsequently, multiple patterns are mounted onto a single gating system, creating a cohesive cluster.
5. Coating of the Clusters
Through dipping, the assembled clusters receive a 2mm thick water-based refractory coating, enhancing durability and performance.
6. Mold Filling The coated cluster is strategically positioned within a flask. Quartz sand is gently filled using a sand raining feeder and compacted on a vibration table. Upon complete compaction, the cluster is fully embedded, leaving only the sprue visible.
7. Casting
A downsprue aligns with the EPS sprue, channeling molten metal seamlessly into the gating system of the foam pattern. The metal decomposes the EPS cluster, intricately filling the mold cavity. Explore the decomposition process detailed below.
8. Demolding
Once the molten metal solidifies, the casting is complete. The castings are then conveyed to the next stage for further cleaning and refinement.
9. Sand Processing Department
Post-demolding, used sand is transported to the processing system for recycling, ensuring sustainability and efficiency.
